Animal Health and Welfare Pathway (England) for Cattle
Requirements for Animal Health and Welfare Pathway BVD Testing in Cattle
Beef cattle
5 blood (serum or red top) samples from up to 2 management groups needed to qualify for funding
Dairy cattle
EITHER
Bulk milk sample which can be tested for either:
- BVD antigen (virus) by PCR or
- BVD antibody
OR
- 5 blood (serum or red top) samples taken for BVD antibody in up to 2 epidemiological groups. (The £372 payment rate for a dairy cattle review will not change if this option is selected).
In general we would recommend that for most dairy herds an annual BVD antibody check test should be done if homebred unvaccinated replacement heifers, in the age range 9-18 months, are available for testing.
